The project "Intercultural Network for and by Consumers", sponsored by the Turkish Union in Berlin-Brandenburg (TBB) and in cooperation with the Turkish Community in Schleswig-Holstein (TGSH), is aimed at disseminators from Berlin and Schleswig-Holstein with their own or family migration experience who work in institutions run by and for migrants with their own or family migration experience. This project is based on the results of the previous project "ConsumersPlus - Intercultural Network for Consumer Education".
In the period from July 2020 to June 2023, the project aims to establish sustainable consumer education for migrants of different origins. To this end, full-time and volunteer staff from institutions dealing with various consumer protection issues will be trained in Berlin and Schleswig-Holstein and a network of disseminators will be set up for professional exchanges.
Within the framework of the project, up to 12 disseminators from different communities in Berlin and Schlewsig-Holstein with their own or family migration experience will be trained in up to 12 sessions on key consumer protection aspects in cooperation with the consumer centres in Berlin and Schleswig-Holstein. The disseminators will then offer independent information on consumer protection issues in their communities.
The Berlin disseminators from the previous project "ConsumersPlus – Intercultural Network for Consumers" form another group. They will also be trained in consumer protection issues in up to 12 sessions by the experts at the consumer protection centre in Berlin, where they can broaden and expand their knowledge.
It is also aimed at forming "tandem partnerships" with the Berlin disseminators already trained from the previous project so that a wider network can be realised, building on the already existing network from the previous project.
The training courses set quality standards for the disseminators, provide information on the legal principles of consumer protection, convey the content of the key consumer protection aspects (e.g. contracts, warranty claims, insurance, retirement provision, long-term care insurance, telecommunications, digital trading, travel rights, etc.) and are always oriented towards the practice of the disseminators conveying information.
As long as the current pandemic continues, the training courses and network meetings will be conducted in digital format.
