"Sustainably informed - Intercultural Network" (NIIN)

About us

As a project executing agency, the Turkish Federation in Berlin-Brandenburg (TBB) has been implementing the project "Sustainably Informed - Intercultural Network" (NIIN), funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, in cooperation with the Turkish Community in Schleswig-Holstein (TGSH) and the consumer centres in Berlin and Schleswig-Holstein since 1 July 2023. In the project, we continue our proven approach of debating consumer action issues with multipliers from different language areas and making information available in the respective communities in a low-threshold manner.

Due to current developments that will also shape the coming years and, in some cases, decades (climate change, demography, structural change in the economy, energy and transport transition), consumer protection issues will be interwoven with questions of sustainability more strongly than ever in the future. This does not have a normative character alone, stemming from the long-term need to secure our financial basis and livelihood in the Anthropocene. It also includes the concrete options and constraints for consumers themselves and is accompanied by new opportunities, but also challenges, for responsible, economically and ecologically meaningful consumer behaviour. NIIN therefore focuses on the increasingly important interfaces between consumer protection and sustainability, or environmental, nature and climate protection. The project addresses the following topics in this context:

  1. Sustainable energy contracts
  2. Sustainable consumption and its ecological and economic advantages and savings potentials
  3. Sustainable budget management
  4. Sustainable mobility
  5. Sustainable financial planning
  6. Other topics according to current needs, e.g. health and care

In a series of workshops, which are mainly led by employees of the consumer centres, the topics mentioned in the above modules can be dealt with from different perspectives and then worked on and reflected on together in a peer-to-peer process in subsequent network meetings of the multipliers. The aim of the project is to contribute to the economic, ecological and social modernisation and transformation of Germany at the micro levels of everyday action. The multimedia dimension is a key element of this: by the end of 2026, audio and video contributions will promote the transfer of knowledge between different communities and language areas and make important interim results available online to interested members of the general public. This will be done through podcasts and video clips, which are then linked in our newsletter and made accessible via the project page.
